webSite Manager Editor's Review

webSite Manager is a simple FTP client that allows you to easily manage your Website.

The first time I saw the name of this client, I was curios to see what it was and what kind of features it offers. After the testing I had my conclusions.

You need to define a list of your FTP hosts in the bookmark manager in order to be able to use this client. This action isn't difficult and one thing, that was different from most other clients, was the fact that I didn't have to append the ftp:// prefix to the hosting server address.

The client did its job pretty good and it has a decent keep-alive. It's also pretty fast while browsing through your files and folders.

I missed two features that I liked about a decent FTP client, like a directory tree with all the folders from the host, in order to jump quickly from a folder to another; and a secondary local browser. The drag-and-drop functionality is easy, but sometimes the old fashion look for a FTP client is preferred by advanced users.

I didn't like the lack of support for creating, deleting, or renaming directories/files. This makes it more like a half featured client.

The upload of the files went well in every case. I tried various file types and it didn't disappoint me.

Pluses: It is easy to use and it has a nice way of using a stored password from your keychain. It has a decent keep-alive and it's pretty fast while browsing through the hosted directories.

Drawbacks / flaws: it doesn't have any write functionality over the uploaded files.

In conclusion: for a half featured FTP client, it does a pretty good job. The lack of support for some features might be annoying. There are better FTP clients out there who can make a better job, such as: CyberDuck, an excellent Open Source project, and Secure FTP which is free for non-commercial usage.
